Symptoms and signs of periodontal diseases

Periodontal disease is an insidious disease that in the initial stage may go unnoticed without clinical symptoms and subjective symptoms, so patients often do not seek help in time and wait until the advanced stage of the disease.

The first symptom that the patient may recognize is bleeding of the gums when brushing teeth or chewing solid foods. Later gum recession occurs so that the teeth look like they are extended. When gum recession occurs sensitivity to hot and cold may be painful. At the final stages loosening and tooth loss can occur.

How does periodontal disease begin?

The main factor that causes periodontal disease is dental plaque, soft colorless deposits on the teeth which contain bacteria. And if not cleaned properly after two weeks, the soft dental plaque becomes tartar (hard deposit), which cannot be removed with a toothbrush.

Improper diet and inadequate oral hygiene are the leading causes of accumulation of plaque on teeth, which is the main factor that leads to the development of periodontal disease.

When we speak of an irregular diet, we mean food that is soft, milled, sweetened and demands little chewing or minimal effort, and thus has no self-cleaning properties.

Other factors that contribute to the occurrence of the disease, chewing only on one side, mouth breathing, poor dental procedures, dental anomalies, some common diseases, heredity, age, and smoking. In addition, aesthetic problems arise in the course of periodontal disease, and the possible complications such as abscesses, cysts, diseased organs.
